Hosted by the North Central San Mateo Community Wellness Initiative, six local community members were selected as "Everyday Heroes" for their work in substance abuse treatment and prevention, homeless advocacy, community leadership, and youth leadership.
As the Deputy Mayor of San Mateo, it was my privilege to say a few words of thanks on behalf of the San Mateo City Council for their hard work, and to present the honorees with certificates of recognition for their community service.
The honorees were: Allen Haysbert (Prevention Hero), Joshua Hugg (Sunshine Neighborhood Hero), Ruby Kaho (Partnership Hero), Timothy Niupalau (Youth Hero), Bennie Shannon (Sunshine Neighborhood Hero), and Erik Waldorf (Merchant Hero).
